Testing the quality of material at different stages of processing from fibre to fabric and evaluation of processing performance by the application of physical, chemical and processing tests form an integral part of the services rendered by SITRA to its members. Based on research, consultancy work and inter-mill comparison studies, norms have been fixed by SITRA for all the important quality characteristics.
Testing services help the mills to evaluate the quality, select raw material of requisite quality and assess the process proficiency. Also, for mills with their own testing laboratory, a comparison of mill test results with SITRA test results would enable them to check on the accuracy of their test results. SITRA has full range of state-of-the-art testing instruments to evaluate quality of cotton, man-made fibres, processed material, yarns and fabrics. The various testing services offered may be grouped broadly into five major heads viz., fibre, yarn, fabric, processing and chemical tests.
Also, SITRA physical and chemical laboratories have been accredited by National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL), New Delhi, for complying with ISO/IEC 17025 guidelines for laboratory accreditation. With this accreditation, the test reports of SITRA laboratories are valid in all countries which are signatories to International Laboratory Accreditation Co-operation (ILAC) arrangement, thereby eliminating re-testing of textiles by the foreign buyers. All the tests are carried out as per AATCC, ASTM, ISO, IS, BS and other international standards.
