E. OTHER SERVICES OFFERED BY THE TRAINING DIVISION
Maintaining a Staff Inventory requires mills taking stock of the existing talent in their unit and also anticipate the numbers required for any further expansions. The inventory also helps managements to take crucial decisions for assignment of the right workmen for individual tasks based on their capabilities.
In order to help mills to either create or update such a database, this service by SITRA provides a comprehensive analysis of the workmen’s Aptitude, Skill and Attitude by studying their capability to do textile related jobs, assess their elemental timings for carrying out various operations and evaluate their commitment/attitude towards jobs/organisation. A comprehensive report is provided to mills covering the above areas.
Great attention has to be paid to the process of selecting operatives to ensure ‘best fit’ between job requirements on the one hand and the operatives’ personal qualification on the other. Faulty judgement can have a far reaching impact on the mill’s functioning by adversely affecting its labour productivity, waste level, quality of product etc. The need for using such scientific methods of selection has become necessary because the small margin of error that creeps into any process is minimised, which in turn ensures that only individuals who will, by and large, perform efficiently are selected. Moreover, the cost of subsequent training and development also gets reduced significantly by having workers with right aptitude to work.
SITRA offers its service to scientifically recruit the right workers for specific jobs in textile mills using various scientific methods of selection.
SITRA’s Aptitude Tests are exclusively designed to meet the specific requirements of assessing the ability or aptitude of employees to do the expected activities in various departments of textile mills.
The Aptitude Test measure whether an individual has the capacity or latent ability to learn and perform a given job if adequate training is provided. The Aptitude Test kit consists of 3 sub tests namely, Rate of Manipulation Board, Finger Dexterity and Nail Stick test along with Isihara’s colour blindness test which enables screeing of persons with suspected colour blindness.
A new version of multimedia training materials, in DVD format, for the benefit of spinning mill operatives has been released by SITRA. DVD serve as a handy tool for spinning mills to educate operatives on the right ways and means of working in spinning mills available to users in 5 languages namely, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi. An English version of DVD is also available separately.
